Former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan Barbara L. McQuade will visit FordDirect on Thursday, Nov. 8 to speak on “Creating a Culture of Compliance.”

From 2010 to 2017, McQuade served as the U.S Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan. She was appointed by President Barack Obama, and was the first woman to serve in her position. During McQuade’s tenure as U.S. Attorney, the office convicted former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and more than 30 others on public corruption charges; an Al-Qaeda operative for attempting to blow up an airliner over Detroit on Christmas Day in 2009; a doctor who lied to patients about having cancer so that he could bill Medicare for expensive chemotherapy treatments; Volkswagen for cheating on emissions tests, resulting in a $4.3 billion fine; and Takata Corp. for fraudulently concealing defective airbags, resulting in a $1 billion fine.

McQuade is currently a law professor at the University of Michigan, where she teaches criminal law, criminal procedure and national security law. She is also a legal analyst for NBC News and MSNBC. McQuade also served as vice chair of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee and co-chaired the Terrorism and National Security Subcommittee.
